Assessments & Diagnosis:
Ellen Rigg performs in-depth language and learning evaluations in order to identify and accurately diagnose language disorders and language-based learning disabilities, including dyslexia and dysgraphia. The evaluation is comprehensive and carefully designed to capture performance in the skills required for effective spoken communication, reading, and writing. The assessment results are then used to design a targeted intervention program focused on the identified areas of need while building upon your child's unique learning style and natural strengths.
Ellen has been approved as a diagnostician by the International Dyslexia Association - Rocky Mountain Branch. Please visit the IDA- Rocky Mountain Branch website for additional valuable resources and information.
- Assessments typically require 5-7 hours and are scheduled across 2 days.
- Weekdays and weekend appointments are available for testing.
- The evaluation cost includes:
- a comprehensive report
- a follow-up meeting to discuss assessment findings, diagnoses, resources, and recommendations for treatment as well as academic accommodations and modifications
- an initial meeting with the child's educational team in order to support an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and accommodations and/or modifications under a Section 504 Plan as appropriate
Screenings:
In an effort to alleviate the barriers associated with identifying children with language and literacy concerns sooner, Ellen offers screenings which require approximately 45 minutes of testing at a cost of $75. The cost of the screening is deducted from full testing should you decide to participate in full testing after the screening is complete. A screening is not diagnostic. The result of the screening will only indicate whether further testing is recommended or not.
Therapy:
Ellen provides evidence-based interventions for dyslexia and language-learning disorders. Treatment is designed to meet the unique needs of your child based on assessment results as well as ongoing progress monitoring of the student's response to treatment. Ellen has received specialized training in Orton Gillingham methods of reading instruction which have been shown to be highly effective in children with literacy impairments.
Advocacy & Collaboration:
In order to have the greatest impact on your child's success, it takes a team approach. Ellen consults and collaborates with members of your child's educational team to support the development of an appropriate Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and 504 accommodations and/or modifications. She offers specialized assistance by providing children, parents, and educators with informative resources such as recommended books, research literature, websites, events, and technologies to optimize learning and knowledge across all team members including the child.
Assistive Technology:
Identifying appropriate technologies to support your child with their language or learning disability can be overwhelming with the vast number of technologies available and the constantly evolving landscape. Ellen provides assistance in matching your child's needs with the most appropriate and accessible technology to support their success.
